Quiet Time

As I site here on this beautiful Sunday morning sipping my sweet tea, I can’t help but think I’ve been very busy lately and my time I spend with God has dwindled.  Not that I do it on purpose, but I have not got my routine back in place.  During the summer I did a bible study and that really helped keep me in His word.  Once the bible study was over, I did bible study plans in my bible app.  As school started, both kids in soccer and business picked up, life became hectic and my routine has changed.

I try to catch the verse of the day in my bible app or from the K-Love email, but I don’t always and really that one or two verses isn’t enough for me.  I also listen to K-Love or other Christian music stations in the car.  I love to worship in this time, but I still need my quiet.  Time to read and study His word.  Time to pray and journal.  Time to listen to Him speak to me.

I find mornings before everyone wakes up or after I get the kids to school is the best time for me.  I never thought mornings would be the time for me.  I am by all means a night owl.  I still need my sleep so that means I sleep longer in the morning.  One thing I have learned about being a night owl is I usually don’t want to work or think hard.  I usually want to watch TV.  I can also read a book, but I don’t want to have to “think” about it.  I just want to relax and unwind in the evenings/night.  For example, yesterday we went over to our friends house to watch the game.  The guys decided they were going to take the kids over to the farm to camp.  So, my friend and I were enjoying a girls night!  When I got home at 10:30pm I was tired, but still needed to unwind.  I know this sounds crazy since I just spent the evening with my dear friend and no kids.  It was almost 12:30am before I crawled into bed.  It is hard for me to go to bed before 11pm.  It is hard for me to get up early.

Quiet Time

I need to get my routine back in order.  When I get home from taking the kids to school, I need to get my sweet tea, pull out my bible and get comfy on the couch.  Spend some time with the Lord.  It really does put my whole day in better perspective when I do this.  Most days I do this, but some days I do not.  I may go to the store right after dropping them off.  I may be talking to my husband or my mom and by the time I get off the phone I have started into other parts of my day.  This also only happens Monday thru Friday when they are in school.  Weekends I’m usually rarely up before the kids and I just can’t concentrate.  I don’t really have a space that I can sneak away to for quiet time.  During the summer I have a terrible time sticking to a routine.  We are up late and sleep in.  By the time we get moving the day has already started, if you know what I mean.

What tips do you have that help you stay connected with God?  Do you have a routine?  Let me know in the comments.  You may suggest something that I or someone else hasn’t tried.

Stay positive, stay motivated, and make today amazing!

May your day be filled with positivity and productive moments,

Tiffany

**P.S.

I penned this in my notebook in September 2019.  A lot has changed in the 5 years since I wrote this, but a lot hasn’t changed too.  I now have one kid graduated and working 6 days a week and the other is driving herself to school.  I don’t have to get up early…I need to get up early.  I still struggle to make the time I need to spend with God.  I still regularly do bible studies at church and find that when I’m in a study I do make time to do it more than if I’m not in a study.  I now need to focus and use that same time to just read God’s word when I’m not in a study.
