On June 30, 2019 at my church was the last sermon in a series on life verses. I’ve never thought about a life verse before and still have yet to have a verse “jump out” at me so to speak.
The verse:
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
Besides the power of this verse, I found that God was saying mediate on this one and think about it, lay it on your heart. Why you ask? Well when I opened my bible app to read along with the scripture, guess what!? Matthew 6:33 was the verse of the day! Coincidence (totally just looked up Gibb’s rules to see how to spell that, any NCIS fans out there!?) maybe, but to me it was a confirmation that I needed to study up on this verse more.
As I have moved through the previous bible study I did and now this one, I have noticed that I pay more attention to things like this. Instead of trying to figure out if it means something I just know that these instances are telling me something. That I need to pray about it and listen to what God is telling me. I’ve also started documenting more of my thoughts and feelings. So, as I go through the rest of today I’ll think about this verse, I’ll write it in my planner, write it in my prayer folder and pray as to why God had laid it out there for me.
Some questions of reflection from the sermon were:
- What is it that I need in life?
- You absolutely need God.
- You necessarily need other people (community).
- You need food and water.
- You need covering (some clothes and shelter).
- If you are a Christian, you necessarily need the church and the church needs you.
- How might I need to reprioritize things in my life so that I’m seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness?
- Do I need to reprioritize how I manage my time?
- Yes! I definitely need to carve out time in my day to spend it with God. I need to make time to read His word, pray and worship Him.
- Do I need to reprioritize how I mange my money?
- Absolutely! We definitely need to put God at the forefront of our finances. We need to budget so we are able to tithe, save and pay our bills on time.
- Do I need to reprioritize how I manage my spiritual gifts and talents?
- I really need to figure out what they are so I can use them in the way God intended me to. Maybe with this writing adventure I’m on the right track.
- Do I need to reprioritize how I manage my time?
Stay positive, stay motivated, and make today amazing!
With love and encouragement,
**P.S.
I wrote this in my notebook over 5 years ago. I haven’t managed to plan and carve out time everyday to spend with God like I should. I pray almost daily, when I’m in the car I listen to Christian music and worship him and I do get on my bible app and read at least the verse of the day. When I’m engaged in a bible study at church, I spend time daily in the study. It’s the times that I’m not engaged in a study that I fall short of spending time daily in God’s word. I know, I need to do better! So stay with me as I work on planning better and spending more time in God’s word and with God.
